As the weather starts to get colder, I find myself craving those warm, delicious comfort foods. Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, chicken pot pie, and chili! I have always been a huge fan of traditional red chili, but to be honest – both my dad and Jake’s dad make INCREDIBLE tomato-based chili. And quite frankly, its tough to compete! I decided it was time to make my own chili that I could be proud of – you know, one to share with my own kids someday! I knew wanted to make a white chili – and I knew I wanted to use turkey to lighten up the flavor. Then I thought to myself, what else do I love? BACON! Hence, the crockpot turkey, white bean, bacon chili was born!
Chili is such an incredible food – why, you ask? Because while there are SO many different variations of chili – spicy, tomato, white, beef, chicken, chipotle – ALL chili makes you feel the same way. Warm and full of satisfaction!
Chili is one of the ultimate comfort foods. There is nothing like coming inside after a long day of raking leaves and sitting down to a bowl of steaming hot chili. Full of rich flavors and packed with protein.
Its seriously amazing how much seasoning you can put in a pot of chili without overwhelming it. Truly! You can just keep pouring in seasoning and it’s like – hmm, maybe a little more?
My brother and I would always make fun of my dad growing up because he would make this AMAZING chili throwing in a little of this, a little of that. And it would always be delicious – but he could NEVER replicate the exact same chili twice. To this day – I love my dad’s chili, but is indeed always a little bit different!
This chili recipe is SO EASY! Why? Because its in a crockpot! Everything in a crockpot is so easy. You just throw the food in, press a button and a few hours later – voile!
You could absolutely make this chili in a normal pot as well! You would just have to keep an eye on it – stirring occasionally. But it would definitely be done faster!
So why is this chili so amazing? The turkey is light yet flavorful – browned with cumin, chili powder, cayenne, onion, and garlic! Surrounded by a rich, warm and flavorful white broth that is slightly creamy – every bite rich with white beans, hominy, green peppers, and of course – bacon! MMM BACON! Oh and don’t forget the kick of spice! Those jalapenos add just the perfect amount of flavor and kick – so even a mild eater will not be able to resist.
Another reason I love chili – the toppings!! There are so many choices when it comes to toppings – and they add even MORE flavor to this already bowl of wow! Sour cream, cheese, fresh green onions, jalapenos, avocado, bacon, tortilla chips AND/or cornbread! Yes – I said AND 🙂 call me crazy but I like my chili with ALL of the above.

You will HAVE to try this recipe for yourself! Not going to lie, I have eaten this delectable crockpot turkey, white bean, bacon chili three nights in a row – and I already cannot wait for dinner tomorrow!
An amazing delicious white chili packed with turkey, white beans, hominy and bacon. Enjoy this chili on gameday, or as an easy weeknight dinner that everyone will love!
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 sweet onion chopped
- 2 cloves garlic diced
- 1 lb turkey ground
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 32 ounces chicken broth
- 2 cans cannellini beans rinsed
- 1 can white hominy rinsed
- 4 ounces chopped green chili peppers
- 1 tbsp jalapenos
- 1/4 cup bacon bits turkey or regular
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup half and half fat free
- 2-3 tbsp lime juice to taste
- Salt and Pepper to taste
In a large saute pan, heat olive oil over medium heat for 1-2 minutes. Add diced onions to pan - saute for 5-6 minutes.
Once onions have begun to soften, add garlic and ground turkey to saute pan (I used 98% lean meat, but any percentage works!). Season with cumin, chili powder, and cayenne pepper - cook over medium heat until turkey begins to brown. Remove from heat and set aside.
Rinse beans and hominy in a medium-sized colander. Drain excess water.
Assemble crockpot so that it is ready for use - Add turkey/onions/garlic mixture followed by beans and hominy. Next, add chicken broth, chopped green peppers, jalapenos, and bacon bits to crockpot.
Set crockpot to high and cook for 3.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
After 3 hours, combine flour and half and half in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until flour is fully dissolved into cream. Pour cream into chili, stir until fully combined.
Cook for final 30 minutes with crockpot only slightly covered - allowing steam to escape and the chili to thicken.
Serve hot with tortilla chips, cornbread, sour cream, shredded cheese, green onions, extra bacon bits, and/or avocado!
Storage: Refrigerate an airtight container for 3-5 days. Freeze for 2-3 weeks.
