I have always wanted to try and make my own baked kale chips…
So why haven’t I? Well for one – I have ZERO patience. Even when it comes to roasting vegetables! I put them in the oven, 5 minutes later… are they done yet? 10 minutes – what about now? 15 minutes – still no…
I’ve tried a few different recipes that are similar to baked kale chips, such as baked apple chips, baked potato chips, baked sweet potato chips… but they always seem to end up just a little soft in the end! Perhaps this is, again, related to my lack of patience.. But come on – who wants to wait over an hour for anything!?
Recently, I tried making Baked Chickpeas and WOAH! They were amazing!! I absolutely loved them. I actually made them right in my toaster oven and they were so incredibly easy. 400F – 40 minutes – bing bang boom – a delicious protein packed snack ready to go. I like to season with a little cayenne pepper for a kick, but you could season any which way you’d like!
Anyway, back to the kale chips. I actually came upon this cooking method completely by accident.
It was a weeknight – I was trying to make a quick dinner with sauteed kale. I got distracted (typical) – and I happened to leave the kale in the pan for just a little bit too long. At first I was totally bummed – my kale appeared to be burnt and completely ruined. I went to scoop it out onto a plate when I realized, it was perfectly crisp!
I took a bite. It was delicious. Crunchy, salty, Pan-Fried Crispy Kale Chips – ready in no time! Even the slightly burnt pieces tasted good. As I continued to cook the rest of my dinner, I couldn’t stop eating it. In fact, my kale chips were gone before I even finished making the rest of dinner. Don’t judge me! It was addicting!
So a few days later I tried to give it another shot – olive oil, kale, salt, pepper. And once again, bing bang boom! Pan-fried delicious crispy kale chips! So much faster than in the oven!
I would highly recommend you try this recipe as a fun alternative to traditional sauteed kale or as a delicious crunchy snack! Don’t have the time to wait for kale to completely dehydrate in the oven? These kale chips are quick, easy, and just as delicious as oven-baked crispy kale chips! Season them however your heart desires – and of course, let me know what you think!
